Property care in Lošinj
Connected to Cres by the small bridge at Osor, Lošinj is the greener of the two islands, with pine forests around Čikat bay and a long tradition as a place people came to for the air. Mali Lošinj is the largest island town in the Adriatic and Veli Lošinj is its smaller, prettier neighbour. The climate is mild enough that gardens keep growing well into the winter.
In season
The lush vegetation is why many people buy here, and why an unattended garden closes over within a single season. We keep shorter intervals for garden work on Lošinj than further north. Everything else costs a crossing. Linen, cleaning supplies and spares all come from the mainland, so we hold stock on the island instead of shipping per changeover. That is the difference between a turnaround that works and one that waits for a ferry.
Out of season
The southern end of the island is noticeably milder than its neighbours and the pine gives real shelter, so frost is rarely the issue here. Damp and mould in closed-up houses are, because a mild humid winter is exactly what mould wants. Island services thin out from November. A trade that would come within the week in Rijeka becomes a planned crossing, so we bundle repairs and, where a house allows it, run a dehumidifier rather than wait to treat the wall.
